All About Holidays are Murder

Hi all,

I discovered mystery books at the tender age of eight or nine. and I’m happy to report, it was love at first sight. This was accompanied by a major freak out by my mother who thought it was dangerous for a kid to read about murders and such.

Before too long I had worked my way through all the mystery books for kids and moved on to the classic writers, Christie, Tey, and Sayers. By the time I was in my late teens, I had started to drift toward the hard stuff, mostly, thrillers, Noir, and PIs. While I mostly read cozies today, I still love to dabble, and will never turn the chance to reread John D. MacDonald,  Clive Cussler, or Raymond Chandler.

Gravitating toward holiday-themed mysteries started at about the same time as my cozy craze. Even before the last gasp of summer, my anticipation for the new seasonal reads will start to build. I was so eager to get my hands on these books that I didn’t stop reading until I’d polished off every book. Soon I was hunting for other holidays, Valentine’s Day, Easter, and the 4th of July. Turned out I loved them all. And if that mystery takes me to some interesting travel destination (or historical setting) all the better. The joining of holiday and travel themes with my favorite genre seemed to make both more fun.

I’m also an avid fashion fan (the history of fashion and the current stuff are both my jam) and I’ve worked in the fashion industry. Granted this was through some family-owned businesses but I say it still counts.

As I lifelong travel bug, I visited twenty-two countries and counting. It always made me sad that I couldn’t find anyone that seemed to share my enthusiasm for crime, fashion, and holidays, of both types. And it sort of stung that no one had started a book club where I might meet other readers that shared my passions.

Fast forward many years and I’ve grown wiser, if there wasn’t a perfect book club, I could make one. So welcome to Holidays are Murder. I’m new at this blogging thing, mistakes will happen. Please send suggestions and feedback. I’m eager to learn.

Happy reading!

P.S. Like many mystery readers, I am secretly hoping to one day become a mystery writer. Nothing published yet, but I’ll keep you updated as I progress.
